Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? Nothing really surprised me, but I am happy with what I learned.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I thought the program itself was very educational and I can't think of any way to improve it, except to have less exercises and break it up more over a year or something.
If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
I would, but again, I think 30 things is a bit overwhelming. I think mabye 10 things with 2 months every 6 months would be sufficient.

Library 2.0 experience
What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I learned many new things doing these "30 Things". I really liked learning about Flickr and blogging.
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
It has made me more aware of all the resources available on the internet. It has given me easier ways to catalog information and help customers.

Rollyo
I personally did not like Rollyo and can't see any use for me in the future. I did not find it user friendly or easy to navigate.
Library Thing
I have used Library Thing for my Information Needs of Young Adults class at FSU. I really like it and thing that it is a great way to check out new books and what other people are reading.

Online Image Generator
One of the sites I visited for this exercise was The Generator Blog. On this blog there were many cool things, but the one that really caught my eye is getting my name in Chinese. It is up above! I liked this site a lot, but I was not so fond of the other ones, Letter James and FD Toys.

Podcasts and video
I watched "The Library Channel" on ASU website that I found on Google. What I did find frustrating about YouTube is that it keeps pausing. I think this is because of band width at the library. It just makes it harder to obtain the information from the site.
locating podcasts
I tried to watch the tutorial on Yahoo, but the link did not lead me anywhere. I do currently use Itunes and I can't see any personal reason to use anything else. With working with customers in the library it is nice to know where these are located so that they can use them at home.
YouTube
I went on YouTube and watched a really cool National Geographic video on the rattlesnake that was a featured video. There were other links that were on the page about snakes and I thought that was great to have similar videos listed on the page. There are so many differnet videos on YouTube that I could spend days watching them all!
Mashups
For Thing 22 I went Wikipedia to find out more about mashups and I went to the website mentioned in wickipedia called "Mashup Awards". From this page I checked out a website called Semapedia. I personally was not impressed with this site. It did not have much to offer me and I didn't find it easy to use. The second site I went to was called Chevelle. This website dealt with music and was very cool. I could see myself possibly using it in the future.

Tags for Flickr
Tags for Flickr I read two of the resources provided and did not learn any new information about tagging on Flickr.
I think that Flickr is a great site and I enjoy browsing on it. I also do think that the tags are important because it enables you to catalog your pictures and it allows people looking for specific things to see just those.

Flickr
I did not create a flickr account. I did, however, search the site and found some very interesting pictures. I like the way that you can post comments and declare pictures "winners". I am amazed at the talent that is there and some of the beautiful pictures. Thank you for an introduction to the site!
Web 2.0 Awards
While I was searching the nominees for the Web 2.0 awards I came across LibraryThing.com. I used this website last semester for my Information of Young Adults class at FSU. At first I wasn't very sure of whether or not I liked it, but once I searched it and worked my way around it, I think it is a great site.
It is especially helpful in a classroom situation where we were all using some of the same tags. It is also neat to be able to find books on subjects that might not be in a specific classifiation, but that would interest you.

I found this site to be very frustrating. I could not find Blog Posts anywhere, so I could not search for Learning 2.0. I tried to explore this site, but found nothing that especially held my interest.
Tagging and Folksonomy
I do believe that I understand the concepts behind tagging and folksonomy. I think in certain instances they can be valuable, such as switching computers. However, I feel that there structure is too free and open. You might be able to obtain some good information, but in my opinion, it would make it singnificately difficult without having classification terms.

Myspace Profile
I have had a myspace account for a while now. I find this website and my page very easy to navigate and user friendly.
I thinkt that it is so popular because it enables you to do so many things. You can make plans with friends, keep in touch with people you never have before, make new friends, find out about different events going on in your aread, find new bands, find out where and when their shows are, etc.. Businesses now even have their own pages to keep you up to date on what is going on. It is an easy way to keep in touch and it does not require a lot of time. It is your own personal website, but you can keep your information private and only let people see it if they are your friend. You have to approve everyone that is your friend, so it really isn't as dangerous as perceived, except when people don't take their own precautions (which are available and talked about all the time).

411 on Social Networking
Should Virginia Beach Public Library use Social Networking sites to connect with teens?
As a Teen Group Leader in this system, I think it would be wonderful to use social networking sites to communicate with teens. I think that they are a tool that has much potential in the library department. Already, CL coordinators and teens communicate by email. It would be so nice and easy to also post a bulletin letting our teens know what is going on with meetings and such. I believe it would also be a great recruiting tool. If I am a "friend" of a teen council member and one of there other friends sees that, they could find out more about it and join.
I thinkt that we are sorely lacking as a library department by not using social networking with our teens.

Reader's Advisory Wiki
I posted my favorite book on the Reader's Advisory Wiki today. I have used Wikis before, so it was relatively easy for me to figure out. However, if I had not used them in the past I don't think I would have found it an enjoyable experience.
There are no directions on how to use them, the user has to figure out that to add something to the page, it has to be edited. Also, if you change what someone else has written and hit save, it saves it. I understand this, but I think there should be some kind of a warning or something to let someone who has never used a wiki before know it.

Library related blogs
I used the search engines that the Virtual Librarian provided for us to search for library related blogs. The only one that was not helpful was Feeder and that was because the site was down for updates.
Topix was great and I loved how you could search by keywords, news and/or blogs and zipcodes or URLs. This made searching what you were looking for easier because you could narrow it down if you wanted to.
I enjoyed the site Technorati and would definitely use it again to search.

Wiki
As a member of the All Staff Training Day here at VBPL I have been using a wiki for over six months. It is such a great tool to share information. It is wonderful that anyone can update it and that it is available to our whole team. We do have it password protected so we are the only ones who can post. Also, we can be notified when anyone changes anything!
I think any sort of team could benefit from using a Wiki to keep up to date. Also, libraries as individuals and the library system as a whole could use a wiki to share ideas and information. isn't that what libraries are all about?

Instant messaging and reference at the library
The library staff is great at getting you the answers you need while doing IMing. They are professional and efficent as well as being polite and giving great reference interviews over the computer, if your questions are more indepth.
